Magna Visitor Centre (Rotherham)

A former steel mill in Rotherham, derelict since the early 70s, this was to be the venue for the North-East's new visitor education centre. Working closely with DHA's Adam Grater, we were responsible for the lighting installation on the 'Big Melt' show. We also designed, manufactured & installed the special effects, which included four very large Gas Flame Effects that sent  bursts of fire roaring 15 metres into the air. Furthermore we designed, manufactured & installed five Spark machines that project real molten mild steel at distances exceeding 20 Meters! We also conceived, designed and installed the Effects Control System and Safe Exclusion Zone System necessary to keep the show running safely on schedule every 30 minutes of every day!. Along with the show control & thunderous sound system supplied by Electrosonic, our lighting & special effects has enabled the 'Big Melt' to demonstrate the awesome volcanic power of the Electric Arc Furnace to be enjoyed by many thousands of visitors since May 2001.

LIFE Interactive World (Newcastle)

Forming part of the new £68m landmark Millennium project, the International Centre for Life in Newcastle is a visitor attraction using the latest entertainment technology to convey the mysteries of life. Our involvement, in the Big Brain Theatre, was to design, supply, install and commission all of the show lighting and scenic effects. Conceived in conjunction with DHA Design and Event this project married conventional fibre lighting effects with a spectacular 4000 LED effects ceiling and electroluminescent displays to examine the workings of a human brain. The show is fully automated and we developed a custom 8 Universe DMX controller to link the show control AV system with the LED effects lighting. We also manufactured the central stainless steel elliptispherical brain and the hemispherical steel and gauze cortex.
